Announcing The ECO2 Large Natural Refrigeration System

Energy Efficient, Compliant, and Reliable for All Climates

Supermarkets and convenience stores need a proper refrigeration system to stay profitable and keep customers happy. Kysor Warren’s new ECO2 Large Natural Refrigeration System is reliable, energy-efficient, and simple.

Supermarket refrigeration leaks roughly equal the annual emissions from burning 608 billion pounds of coal – or 147 coal-fired power plants. Kysor Warren Epta US is committed to building transcritical CO2 refrigeration systems that meet tomorrow’s regulations today.

The ECO2 Large Natural Refrigeration System addresses three main challenges facing stores today: rising energy costs, the pressure to comply with strict environmental regulations, and the need for reliable refrigeration that works in all climates.

Proven Refrigeration Systems

Refrigeration can consume a huge portion of electricity. Reducing usage has a direct impact on your bottom line.

The ECO2 Large Natural Refrigeration System can improve energy efficiency by up to 10% dependence on climate and store conditions. With patent-pending modules like FTE and ETE, the system optimizes performance for both low and medium-temperature cooling. The Extreme Temperature Efficiency technology is currently used in around 200 stores across Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and Australia.

Ignacio Chapparo of Kysor Warren shares, “In cold-weather conditions, CO2 systems are efficient, reliable, and have good energy consumption. What we need to do is improve how they operate in transcritical mode.”

You can choose from modules such as Full Transcritical Efficiency (FTE) and Extreme Temperature Efficiency (ETE) to make your commercial refrigeration unit(s) meet your unique needs. FTE and ETE are not available on HFC systems; these are only available for natural refrigeration systems provided by Epta. This means you get smarter energy use without sacrificing performance, translating to significant monthly savings on your energy bill.

The ECO2 Large includes standardized options like variable capacity compressors, flash gas tanks, and high-pressure stainless steel piping. Whether your store needs an indoor or outdoor setup, the system is designed to run smoothly in any climate.

With Kysor Warren Epta US’s ECO2 Large, you can choose fixed compressor configurations that simplify decision-making. These configurations allow faster production times, meaning shorter lead times for getting the system up and running in your store.

A design example for a transcritical CO2 booster system comes to us from a customer experience in Phoenix, Arizona.

The city is known for experiencing high ambient temperatures, recently setting a record with 31 consecutive days over 110°F (43.3°C).

The flash tank produces around 63% vapor and 37% liquid in this heat with a regular booster system without additional technologies. In turn, this would result in the medium-temperature compressors running inefficiently to recompress the vapor in the system. It would also significantly reduce the system’s cooling capacity.

With the addition of ETE technology, the gas cooler outlet temperature is reduced to around 86.3°F (30.2°C), and the amount of vapor in the flash tank is reduced to 29%. This would roughly halve the amount of energy required to recompress the vapor in the system and increase its overall cooling capacity.
